Gordon the Labrador - 6 Weeks Residential Dog Training

Published
Gordon has completed his 6 week residential stay! Gordon came to us having lots of trouble controlling himself and his emotions especially around his family that he loves!!

Gordon would spontaneously become over excited and would have big zoomie sessions and would at times begin mouthing his family! This along with his low impulse control would cause him to charge for anything he saw!

Nowadays Gordon is fantastic! Instead of jumping up and mouthing Gordon will now offer positive behaviours such as sit or down in order to get his family’s attention! Lots of work has been done on him being calmer around touch! Gordon had found touch a real trigger but will now enjoy a cuddle without feeling the need to mouth of get excited!

Toys have also been a big part of his training! Having Gordon hold a soft toy has given him a great outlet to be able to soothe himself whilst in a high excitement situation! Along with this we have worked on a strong leave it as Gordon would have a habit of stealing other dogs toys especially balls when out and about! But also teaching him a drop as he had such a strong desire to hold the toy but not exactly let it go! ????

His family had already done a great job teaching Gordon to do basic obedience so we have pushed him a little more to doing fun confidence boosting cues like spin and twist as they are also great outlets for energy which Gordon has in abundance!! However, his owners had struggled with his bed training and getting Gordon to settle in the house so we have worked hard at not only teaching Gordon what the bed cue means but also furthering this and really bulletproofing the bed cue so that even if we left the room Gordon would stay on the bed as he really respected that boundary!
Overall Gordon has had an incredible journey that I’m sure his owners will continue due to the affection they have towards their sweet boy!!
