Man's best robo-friend: Sony dog owners celebrate beloved pets' birthdays in Tokyo

Crowds of Aino robotic dog owners descended upon Tokyo's Kanda Myojin Shrine on Friday, to celebrate the third year of the cyber-dogs' release.

Attendees could be seen dressed in ceremonial robes as they entered the shrine, with their mechanical friends donning miniature robes.

"My baby turned three years old, so we celebrated as what is called Shichigosan in Japan. I'm very happy that we could celebrate the third year together like this, even she is a robot," said Azuki, one Aibo owner.

The robotic dogs are produced by Sony, who released the latest generation of Aibos in January 2018.
In Japan, Shicigosan is a children's ceremony celebrated when a child reaches 3, 5, or 7 years of age.
